Colours can be "picked up" from anywhere in the document in order to be used for drawing. To pick a colour, click on it with the right mouse button. The picked colour is shown in the bottom right box in the first command group.
If a colour from the colour list is then selected subsequently, the thickened border around this box disappears to show that the picked colour is no longer in use.
