Output quality

In this part of the dialog you first have to choose the resolution in which the PDF output should be made. If there are no resolution values available yet, please click on the [ + ] field next to the Resolution popup. A further dialog shows the Resolutions list, which may still be empty.

Click on the "New" button in it to create a new resolution.

In the dialog that appears you can set different values for the X and Y axes, though as a rule this will result in distorted output. Therefore you should normally use the same values for both directions.

After this select the desired colour depth of the print output. You have a choice of four options:

Monochrome

This kind of output is generelly rasterized or dithered, depending on your settings in the Calamus Raster generator. So you should have set the desired raster in the Raster generator beforehand.

Greyscale

Here colour documents will be output as greyscales too. For imagesetting the layer names will be saved in the PDF file, so that a RIP can recognize which colour layer is currently being output.

It is possible also to specify in the PDF file how, say, a film imagesetter is to adjust its own raster frequencies and raster angles. For this, click on the checkbox following the "Greyscale" popup entry so that the raster values will be adopted. If you click on the "Raster width" button, a dialog opens in which you can define the current raster frequencies and angles.

The parameter values are self-explanatory. The default value will be assigned for all further colour layers for which no value has been defined.

TrueColor RGB

The RGB output is meant ideally for screen output, but also for devices that can "only" receive RGB data, or should perform their own separations.

CMYK

Here the document will be output with 32 bit colour depth. During this RGB data contained in the document will be converted to CMYK data in the colour separation. Therefore you should have set up the desired colour separation method in Calmus's Colour Separation module beforehand.
