In order to shift path or control points, this icon must be selected. Selection of the icon can normally be done with a right click on the mouse. The right mouse button will also de-select all selected points on a path.
For selecting one point or several points, the same process is valid as with the objects: A click with the left mouse button on one point selects this (and only this) point. A [SHIFT]-click will add a new point to a group of already selected points. If several points are already selected, and one is to be de-selected, then [SHIFT]-click it again.
The lasso process is also available here for selecting all points in a large area. Simply click where there is no point to start the lasso box.
You can access additional functions by a combination of a RIGHT click of the mouse button with the keys [Ctrl] and [Alternate]. With [Ctrl]+right click on any point of a path, all points of the path (including the control points of the Bézier curves) are selected. With [Alternate]+right click on any path point, all points in the object being worked on are selected. Thus you can easily shift whole paths, or even complete objects.
To shift the selected points, click once again on a selected point. Now all activated points will follow the movement of the mouse. If the selected points include the control points, then the shape of the curve between the points will not change.
This function can be used to achieve another effect as well. If
you selected the field Keep Roundings
in the dialogue Set
Path Parameters
, any rounding of the curve through a point can be
preserved if the other side of the point has a Bézier curve. Moving
the control point on one side will move the control point on the other
in such a way as to keep the same relationship between the tangents
through the point.
A click with the left mouse button will lock the shifted points in place. A click with the right mouse button breaks off the procedure, and all points return to their original positions.
The right mouse button performs other functions too. As well as
breaking off the shift mode, it is used to simultaneously de-select
all selected path points. Also, if there are no points selected on the
path, the right mouse button will toggle between the icons for the
editing functions Select / Move Points
and Set Points
.
